College Preparatory Services
Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is a FREE college preparatory program available to eligible veterans. Partnering with surrounding colleges and universities, Veteran Affairs, Veteran Service Organizations (VSO), and other veteran advocacy groups, VUB is designed and tailored to meet the needs of the individual veteran in their pursuit of post-secondary education at the college of their choosing. The program is intended to encourage, empower, and acclimatize college-bound veterans for the rigors of post-secondary education and training. These college preparatory services are offered to prepare Veterans for their success in college.
Academic Assessment and Counseling
VUB Counselors meet with students and begin by determining their strengths and weaknesses and identifying their academic baseline using an ACCUPLACER test. Using this information, counselors prepare an Individual Academic Plan (IAP) and work closely with each student to help them reach their educational goals. This guidance helps to fully prepare each student for the challenges and academic rigors of college.
Academic Prep Classes and Tutoring
The following courses are available virtually and in person based on an individualized academic needs assessment:
- Literature
- Language Lab
- Math
- Science
- Spanish
- Digital Literacy
College Access & Educational Support
Counselors are available to discuss an array of other support services including:
- Application assistance for eligible VA educational benefits
- Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) submission assistance
- College application submission/essay review
- Scholarship opportunities research assistance
- Requesting prior transcripts, if necessary
- Explore college course curriculum and career interests
- Provide specific workshops to enhance educational support
